So Big Rock Beer
(an Albertan treasure) hosts a website for artists to stick up music for people to check out. It's really cool, totally free, and is a resource to familiarize yourself with some of the local acts that might be haunting your neighbourhoods. Once a year-ish a panel of judges take a few of the submissions (not necessarily the most 'tapped') and release a disc called 'Big Rock Untapped' which comes free with your purchase of a case of Big Rock Beer. You get beer, you get a CD, win win. Albertan artists like John Wort Hannam
, Ben Sures
and the scrabulous Michael Bernard Fitzgerald
have been included in the previous offerings of this disc. Zang.
So yeah, if you're up for listening to some Canadian indie goodness then go bust it open.

The Turncoats, an alt-country rockabilly quartet from Lethbridge AB, are playing at Better Than Fred's in Grande Prairie AB on Thursday May 24th and Friday May 25th. They are an energetic melange of Johnny Cash, Tom Petty, Tom Waits and too much pilsner.
Some links would probably explain things a little better:

|» Wide Mouth Mason and Lisa Brokop on the Canadian Holiday Train|
This year's Canadian Holiday Train will have Lisa Brokop and Wide Mouth Mason on board. With multiple stops each day, the stop in Calgary is scheduled to be a bit longer than others given that CPR's based in the city. The train enters Alberta from Saskatchewan on December 11, below are the Alberta dates (details link to Wide Mouth Mason's Tour Dates sections that has approximate arrival times for the train taken from the CPR site). The site for the CPR (just in case there are delays in the train's schedule) is http://www.cpr.ca. The train is travelling across North America to raise monies and food donations for food banks... so if you can make it out to an appearance, bring donations for your local food bank!|
